Adorable three kids on the tailgate...just adorable - they look so much like our California grandchildren, one of whom visited us this past weekend for my very big birthday...
I enjoyed your idea of the live Christmas tree. When I was growing up in Ohio my family always had a living tree and we pre-dug the hole out on the perimeter of the lot, and also took the tree inside in stages, and then outside in stages from garage to outside edge of house, to its final resting spot next to last year's tree along the property line. Most everyone in Ohio bought live trees in a burlap-covered ball and we put them in a large galvanized laundry tub and covered that lower part over with red flannel giving lots of room for sleds, and balls, and trykes and dollies left by Santas who came down warm chimneys and left tracks and reindeer footprints in the snow on the lawns. It was quite a family effort to bring the tree inside about a week before Christmas and it usually was dismantled and moved to the garage on 12th night - January 6/7th.
Thanks for helping to reintroduce this midwestern tradition to the milder climates out West..
Love, an old Grandma from Olympia, Washington
